Candid Answers to Silly Questions on Cruise Ships
There’s no need to be embarrassed if you’re not an experienced cruiser and you come up with a humorous question onboard a ship. One thing is for sure… The more you cruise, and the more you learn about cruising, the more you love the experience and the more you want to repeat it. No other vacation offers you more choices, better service and convenience. Just think that you can visit so many places and only have to unpack once.
Well, I don’t want to get off the subject here, since I came across a list of questions from passengers to onboard staff collected by Cruise Directors over the years. I think that the answers are probably the ones in their heads and not on their lips. But the questions are real:
DOES THE CREW SLEEP ON BOARD?
Of course not, late at night a water taxi picks them up and takes them home!
(Yes, they do. Passenger to crew ratio on most cruise ships is approximately three to one.)
WHAT TIME IS THE MIDNIGHT BUFFET?
Usually around 11 PM or so. We tried doing it right after breakfast but most people weren’t real hungry
(It sounds funny but the cruise staff gets this question all the time.)
DO THESE STAIRS GO UP OR DOWN?
Yes, Usually!
DOES THE SHIP GENERATE ITS OWN ELECTRICITY?
No, don’t you see the long extension cord trailing behind the ship?
(This is a very common question. Yes, ships generate their own power. Some of them produce enough to light up a small city.)
WHICH IS THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE SHIP?
The captain spins the ship around daily so everyone gets an even tan
WHICH ELEVATOR TAKES ME TO THE FRONT OF THE SHIP?
Ask the elevator operator when you get on, he will take you anywhere you want to go
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE ICE CARVINGS AFTER THEY MELT?
We re-freeze the water and use it for frozen drinks
WHAT IF I MISS THE SHIP?
Take a picture of yourself so you can describe to friends how it feels to see the ship sailing away without you.
(People get left in port all the time for various reasons. It’s not the ship’s responsibility to look after you)
IS THIS ISLAND TOTALLY SURROUNDED BY WATER?
No, part of it is surrounded by sand, but it’s all clearly marked
HOW DO WE KNOW WHICH PICTURES ARE OURS?
Look for totally clueless people… those photos are probably yours
Hope you enjoyed it! If you haven’t tried cruising yet, give it a shot. You will not be disappointed!
